Magro Speech Therapy Hosts Its Annual Event at The Richter Center at St. Bonaventure University, Oct. 27th

Olean — On Sunday, October 27, 2024, Magro Speech Therapy will host its 2nd annual Inclusive Trick or Treat event at the Richter Center on the campus of St. Bonaventure University in collaboration with the university’s School of Business. The event, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, has been thoughtfully designed to provide children with special needs and disabilities the opportunity to enjoy Halloween festivities in a sensory-friendly, accessible environment. Admission is free, and registration online is highly encouraged to ensure the best experience for all.
The event will feature accessible trick-or-treating stations and thoughtful accommodations to ensure every child can fully participate. Children can enjoy Halloween in an environment that considers their unique sensory, communication, and mobility needs.
Educating The Next Generation
This year's event continues the partnership with St. Bonaventure University’s School of Business, which has given students a unique and invaluable opportunity to learn about working with, accommodating for, and including individuals with differing needs. Magro Speech Therapy’s collaboration with the university allows students to participate in a project that highlights how making our community more inclusive benefits everyone. Students from various programs, including business, education, and occupational therapy, are actively involved in the event’s planning, helping to coordinate accommodations, creating mindful activities, and organizing logistics.
“This partnership is not just about creating a fun event; it has also become about educating future professionals,” said Marissa Magro, owner of Magro Speech Therapy and event organizer. “By involving students in this process, we are fostering a more inclusive future, where the needs of individuals with disabilities are met with understanding, empathy, and action.”
Building an Inclusive Community
The Inclusive Trick or Treat event is a key initiative in Magro Speech Therapy’s broader mission to make Olean and the surrounding areas more accessible for individuals with disabilities. By designing spaces and opportunities where children with disabilities and special needs can meaningfully engage and feel welcomed, Magro Speech Therapy is raising awareness about the vital importance of inclusion in our community. “Too often, children with special needs and disabilities are left out of opportunities to fully participate and find true belonging," says Marissa Magro, "It’s our responsibility to change that. Every child deserves the chance to be included and accepted.”
