Consignment Shop Opens in Cattaraugus

48 Kids Offers New and Gently Used Clothing

Cattaraugus, NY welcomes a new store front to Main Street with the addition of 48 Kids! A consignment-based children’s apparel shop that also offers books, toys, and small-scaled baby gear.

October was a big month for 48 Kids as they began running as a full-time consignment shop. They started with a soft opening in August and have been feeling the love from the community ever since. Amy Nagel, owner and operator, discussed how the last few months have been working out as they continue to grow. With the help of her husband Anthony and daughter Ashley, they work as a family operating a small business. Together, they launched the soft opening which prepared them for where they are today. Amy mentioned that they have seen lots of foot traffic and have felt well received. She continued to rave, “The community has been amazing, my consignors are wonderful and they’re spreading the word”. In the world of small business, family and community have become a force to rally around and 48 Kids is definitely channeling just that.

The name 48 Kids was actually inspired by those deep-rooted family values. Amy’s husband’s father aspired to open a store, but unfortunately it never played out. The Nagels wanted to honor this by using the year he was born, 1948, and incorporating it into the name, thus giving us 48 Kids. It also happens to be one of the numbers of the addresses in the building. The name just seemed to align in more ways than one.

The size of the store is approximately 700-800 square feet of retail space and offers 2,000-3,000 pieces to browse through. They offer gently used and new items, all at an attractive price for ever-growing kids. Sizing includes newborns all the way up to juniors, blended from gently used to brand new.

Moving into the winter season, 48 Kids has some exciting plans and merchandise to feature. In December, they are happy to be taking part in Christmas on the Bricks, which is a holiday market hosted within the Cattaraugus community. At the event they will be offering crafts and a scavenger hunt.

Be sure to stop by the shop at any point; they have plenty of winter apparel including coats, jackets, boots, hats, and gloves, some of which are new items. With the never-ending winter season ahead, why not stock up on some snow gear for the long days of sledding, skiing, and snowball fights. 48 Kids is the perfect place for children’s winter apparel at a price that can’t be beat. Be sure to also check out their selection of kids books and toys for a perfect holiday find at a price that won’t hit the bank.

Christmas apparel is in stock and makes for finding a standout holiday outfit for your little ones effortless. And of course, what could be better than finding a few extra items to gift during the holiday season? Browse through their selection of gently used kids toys and books and check off your holiday list.

With plenty of excitement for the holiday seasons and shopping ahead, 48 Kids also has big plans for their future. While their main focus right now is providing an excellent variety of nearly new children’s clothing, Amy mentioned a near future expansion in the works, “We have plans to expand to the space in our building next door, so we’ll be doing adult apparel also… we’ve been working on it for quite a while and are getting really close”. Side by side children’s and adult consignment shops would be a perfect match for the area and we look forward to all future updates 48 Kids has in store. You can always reach out to their social media, including their Facebook Page, with any questions.

The popularity of consignment shops have been on the rise as people look for quality pieces at an affordable price. It’s the perfect way to reduce clothing consumption while finding one of a kind piece in the process. If you are looking for a way to donate or are a consignor yourself, the store is always accepting gently used items and can be brought in during any opening hours. They also offer appointments to be made for drop-offs that go beyond the store hours. For more information on 48 Kids, their hours and what they have to offer, check out their website.
