GOACC Raising Funds for Panel Tree
OLEAN - Laurie McCarthy has hit a bases loaded grand slam for the fourth month of the Chamber Santa Claus Lane Raffle with (again) just over $500 in sales. The raffles’ proceeds are for the purchase of a panel tree for Sullivan and North Union Streets in Olean. The panel tree, which stands 14’ tall with a 3’ star, will join a sister one already purchased (in 2021) on the mall roundabout as well as the centerpiece of a 24’ tall with a 3’ star panel tree at the State/Union roundabout.
“The Sullivan Street panel tree was just ordered before Labor Day 2023 and will arrive in time for this year’s Santa Claus Lane Parade on November 24th,” reported Meme K. Yanetsko, GOACC COO. “If we would have purchased it in January 2024, the sale price would have been about $4,400 plus delivery charges. Buying it ‘in season’ boosted that price up to $6,900 (including delivery) - this means we will have to do some additional monthly raffles.”
However, if corporate/individuals would like to help with the difference ($2,000), donations could be sent directly to the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation to offset the raffles; donors will receive a donation credit.
Winners of the August raffles include: Russell Horning, Toad’s Butcher Shop $25.00 Gift Card; Cindy Murphy, Mystery Basket; Silvana Reed, Forbidden Roots Gift Certificate; Trish Oakley, Beef ‘n’ Barrel Restaurant $25 Gift Certificate; Peggy Weatherall, Tasta Pizza Tray of Pizza; Silvana Reed, Bills Pillow donated by Sheryl Anderson; Theresa Germack, Kitchen Basket (valued at more than $125); Valerie Spring, Cornhole game, portable ($60v); Sonya McCall, Buffalo sports team basket donated by Stella & Janet; and Ken Bailey, Automotive basket donated by Nick and Christine. Winners have been notified and prizes can be picked up at the Chamber office.
The basket auctions will run every month with different baskets for each month. There are ten baskets with tickets sold for $5 for 10 chances. September’s raffles include: $25.00 Gift Card Toad’s Butcher Shop; Forbidden Roots Gift Certificate; Napoli Pizza $25 Gift Certificate; Bath Basket donated by Laurie McCarthy; Christie’s Boutique $25 Gift Certificate; Americana Basket donated by AnnMarie Sitter Tompkins; Tri-County Arts Council $25 Gift Cert, umbrella, & blanket; Two Sweet Desserts $25 Gift Certificate; Rawson Valley Roasters, 2 bags Gourmet Coffee; and Harvest Fall Basket donated by Councilwoman Sonya McCall.
With the overhead of the raffle items covered by the donors, all funds generated each month go right to the Santa Claus Lane fund housed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation. The baskets will be on display at the Chamber each month. Tickets are available at Pleasant Valley Greenhouse, McCarthy’s Emporium, with AnnMarie Wright and the Chamber office.
