OLEAN: Although it was a little over two months early, Santa (disguised as a truck transportation service from Ohio) delivered the 14’ tree with the 3’ star November 6th to the City of Olean’s warehouse.
“It was so exciting see the community come together to raise monies to purchase this newest panel tree for the Sullivan roundabout,” stated Laurie McCarthy, a member of the Santa Claus Lane committee. Since June, with the help of more than 25 community members and businesses, Laurie and staff at the Chamber were able to raise more than $500 each month to cover more than half of the tree’s purchase order.
Buying it ‘in season’ boosted that price up to $6,900 (including delivery) – this means the fundraisers had to do an additional month raffle and are still seeking corporate/individuals to help with the difference ($2,000). Donations could be sent directly to Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation to offset the raffles as well as the donor would receive a donation credit.
Winners of the October raffles include: Silvana Reed, Toad’s Butcher Shop $25.00 Gift Card; Mary Ann Suchora, Wine Basket; Marlene Allison, Prize Basket; Joe Duplechian, Forbidden Roots Gift Certificate; Eileen Skrobacz, Santa Claus Lane ornament basket; Diane Balaban, Sprague’s Maple Farm $25 gift certificate; Jenn Coopersmith, Christmas basket donated by Meme Yanetsko; Deb Kasper, Gift basket donated by Laurie McCarthy; Tina Baxter, Buffalo Bills storage bench created by Sheryl Anderson; and Heather Keller, Angee’s $25 Gift Certificate.
November’s basket raffles is the final one for 2023. There are ten baskets with tickets sold for $5 for 10 chances. This month’s raffles include: Toad’s Butcher Shop $25 Gift Card; For Craft’s Sake Gift Certificate; Hometown Grill $25 Gift Certificate; J Allen’s Restaurant $25 Gift Certificate; Prize Benefactor Gift Basket; BAKLAVA Gift Certificate by Ann Marie’s Homemade Baklava; Margarita Basket donated by Linda and Dan; HoHoHoliday Basket donated by Sonya; Ried’s Food Barn $25 Gift Certificate and Bills Basket donated by Karen and Lauren.
