Wings, Fall, Football and Fun Equals a Great Time in October!
OLEAN - The new event proposed by the GOACC Events Committee last fall is lining up with restaurants, activities and fun! Tailgate Thursday will be held Thursday, October 26 at Lincoln Park in Downtown Olean, 4:30-8:30 p.m.
The idea behind the event is to provide a get together celebrating fall, football and fun outside like tailgating before a sporting event!
“We are connecting with 10 member restaurants for them to provide wings for our Tailgate,” stated Lyndsey Churakos, Member Services Manager. Restaurants confirmed are: Third Base Bar & Grill, Woodside on the Range, Randy’s Up the River, Hometown Bar & Grill, Napoli’s Pizza, Tasta Pizza, House’s Parkwood, Clark’s Subs and On The Side Sub Shop – with tentative Mangia Pizza.
The Chamber is selling tailgate passes for $35 which includes 10 wings, 2 brews, tailgate cap and entry into one of the two tourneys also being held that day.
“We are planning for 200 fans to attend our event, which means 2,000 wings. By splitting it up between our member restaurants, not one would be overwhelmed solely by the 2,000 wings, and our fans will then be able to taste the wings, and pick and choose from the samplings,” added Ms. Churakos.
“The committee connected with Charles Givens from the Olean Cornhole Club and Rich Longer from the Twin Tiers Disc Golf Association for them each to host a tourney during the event,” reported Meme K. Yanetsko, GOACC COO. “For those purchasing the tailgate pass, your admission into one of the two tourneys is included,” she added.
The cornhole tourney is a blind draw where players are randomly paired up, double elimination, 15 minute games or 21 points and a cash payout based on number of teams.
The disc golf will feature a game called ’21’. Test your aim and nerve as you compete in the thrilling 21 game, where precision meets excitement. Unleash your inner pro, sink those putts, and seize the chance to win fantastic prizes.
What else will be there? “We have connected with Nick and Jarrad with the Four Mile Brewing Company who will be providing brews, wines and ciders that they have at their restaurant. There will also be non-alcoholic beverages provided, water and soda,” Ms. Churakos continued.
In addition to the wings, other food options include Sweet Ride Donut Truck, specializing in hot and fresh mini donuts, craft coffees and teas; and Pizza Napoli Bradford trailer, serving pizzas, calzones, sandwiches, and more.
The Olean Family YMCA staff will be down to have sports skills challenges for all to take part in. Some activities that may be there – score soccer goals, football toss and more. These are free for all ages and prizes will be available.
Jim Beverly of Oakfield, NY will be at Tailgate Thursday showcasing his dog training with demos and waterfowl hunting tips. Feel free to bring your dog down to the park and get some tips. (We encourage your dog to be under control – on a lead held by someone able to control the dog.) Mr. Beverly is a well-known retriever trainer from Western New York with 52 years of experience in the waterfowl hunting industry and specializes in training the companion hunting retriever and handler.
WPIG-FM/Seven Mountains Media is the media sponsor and will provide music from their station for the event. They will also air the pregame Bills show with Chris Brown.
“The idea of the event is pretty clear - although the ‘real tailgating’ is happening 60 miles north in Orchard Park - we are inviting those to tailgate with us, celebrate fall and football and get some good food,” added Mrs. Yanetsko. She continued, “The event ends at 8:30pm, in which GOACC as host of the event encourages those in attendance to visit some of the member restaurants around the park to watch the game – Four Mile Brewing Co., Old Library Restaurant, Union Whiskey, Napoli Pizza, House’s Parkwood, etc.”
