First StrOlean Coming Up In June

OLEAN - Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) held its first ever StrOlean in August 2017.  This new event was defined as an event to be held in downtown Olean; event goers were able to saunter, amble, wander, walk North Union Street; and able to enjoy food, music, fine arts, classic cars and fun for all ages

Friday, June 4th will be the first of three StrOleans planned for 2021.  Applications are now available for retail, food and event vendors. Applications can be found online at www.oleanny.com, at the Chamber office or by calling 716-372-4433.

“GOACC is encouraging all to participate – whether in Allegany, Olean, or Portville,” said Meme K. Yanetsko, GOACC COO.  “We gather all the participants’ information and promote it as one event with many locations. For example, Good Times (now closed) and Fusion on Main sent in hours, musical entertainment and specials for our 2019 StrOlean and we included them in our guide and in our promotional materials.  Although the name states StrOlean, the Chamber’s market area includes Allegany, Hinsdale, Portville and Westons Mills in addition to the obvious Olean.

Those that have a brick/mortar store are encouraged to participate in the POPUP MARKETplace where they will host an event inside/outside their store as well as have sales/info.  For those vending outside their own store, there is no charge – however, please fill out an application for inclusion in promotion.

Erica Dreher, GOACC Member Services Manager added, “This is the same for restaurants – whether you vend outside your restaurant or not, send in your specials, your information on entertainment (if any) and other details.  No charge for these brick/mortar restaurants to participate and advertise what they plan to do this day.”

For those that are considered real popups – vendors that display and sell their artisan items, catalog/home party, farm market stands, artwork, jewelry and more as well as food trucks – they will be a POPUP Market – a temporary ‘store’ in the location they choose/request.

“WE NEED YOUR EVENTS also during StrOlean.” Past StrOleans have seen a wide range of activities from tire flipping competitions to roller derby demos, carnival games and children’s crafts, fun runs, musical entertainment, yoga classes outside and more

“GOACC is encouraging businesses, non-profits and school groups to start now and plan to participate in one or all StrOleans. For example, an organization or school group could host a 5K Run/Walk during any edition,” said Dreher.

“During this challenging time, GOACC is committed to the well-being of our employees, attendees and vendors. We are dedicated to supporting the local communities in which our events are held,” added Yanetsko. “The current outside event guidelines is a maximum of 200 people.  StrOlean is a collaboration of many events being promoted by the Chamber. Each location/event is considered separate and will maintain social distancing, safe number counts in the places as well as customer masking.”

Those interested in participating as a retail or food vendor or as an event organizer, GOACC encourages information to be turned into the office as soon as you have it set for proper promotion and planning, as well as no duplication of events. For more information or registration forms, please call GOACC at 716-372-4433 or email events@oleanny.com
