Donor Advised Funds Generate $39k in Grants
OLEAN - The Connie and Sandy Wolfinger Fund and the Wolfinger Family Fund - two donor advised funds established by Harold “Sandy” and Connie Wolfinger at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation - have made possible $39,000 in grants in April to several nonprofit organizations thanks to their philanthropic generosity. Both of these funds were established to make grants to worthwhile charitable causes at the discretion of the Wolfingers.
The Olean General Hospital Foundation received the largest grant, totaling $10,000. The Penn State University Mont Alto Campus - Sandy’s alma mater - received a grant of $10,000, while the State College Campus received a grant of $5,000 for the forest ecology and management program. The YMCA of the Twin Tiers was awarded a grant of $2,100 in support of the Erick Laine Outdoor Center.
Other allocated grants include $1,500 to the United Way of Cattaraugus and Allegany County and $1,000 each to HomeCare & Hospice and North Park Wesleyan Church. $700 was gifted to Cuba Friends of Architecture and the Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program, as well.
Nonprofit organizations that received $500 grants include Genesis House of Olean, Inc., Olean Food Pantry, Pennsylvania Forestry Association, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Interfaith Caregivers, Inc. and the SPCA in Cattaraugus County.
$300 grantees include Allegany County Area Foundation for the Celeste M. Wuersig Scholarship Fund, Phyllis Green Memorial Scholarship Fund, Weston’s Mills Fire Department Kinney Hose Company and Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
Receiving $200 grants are the Allegheny Highlands Council Boy Scouts of America, Penn State, CAMP Fund, Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, Smethport Fire Department, Wreaths Across America, Cuba Fire Department, Great Valley Community Church, Humphrey Volunteer Fire Co., Inc., LEEK Hunting and Mountain Preserve, The ReHabilitation Foundation, Town of Cuba Ambulance Serves, Toys for Tots Olean, NY and the Salvation Army.
Kirk Windus, executive director of CRCF, noted how these grants will continue to positively affect the community. “It is incredibly fulfilling to be the bridge that connects philanthropists like the Wolfingers to the community. These funds will continue to have an impact for many years to come as their endowments continue to grow.”
