This world can be stressful… so stressful in fact that many of us completely forget the things that are most important. From basic needs like eating well and getting enough sleep to spending time with our families, our self-care routines take a back seat when we’re feeling overwhelmed. But they don’t have to. One local mom understands those feelings, and now, she’s creating products to help make it easier to put a little more focus back on ourselves.

Brittany Lowry’s story is pretty amazing. The stay-at-home mom is currently creating and selling her Simplified Skincare Collection at Nature’s Remedy right here in Ellicottville. How did she get where she is, why is she doing it, and what is she actually making? EllicottvilleNOW had the opportunity to talk with Brittany, and she was very excited to share her story with us.

eNOW: How did you get started working with Nature’s Remedy?

LOWRY: My relationship with Nature’s Remedy originally started over a decade ago when I found myself completely worn out after working a highly stressful job as a court stenographer and then as a paralegal. I desired a major lifestyle change, both professionally and personally, and it was at that time that my now husband introduced me to Gretchen Mendell. They were looking to bring somebody onto the team, and after chatting over lunch, we both enthusiastically agreed that this would be a perfect fit! Fast forward and I now am a mother of three young children whom I joyfully stay home and raise. Being able to create organic skincare and holistic remedies from the comfort of my home has been an incredible blessing, and it’s not only because of my website and online community, but also the support of a few amazing locally owned small businesses like Nature’s Remedy that I’m able to do so!

eNOW: What do you offer at Nature’s Remedy? Do you have plans to expand your line further?

LOWRY: As of right now, my Simplified Skincare includes anything from a whipped tallow balm for moisturizing to a magnesium balm for sore/stiff muscles and restful sleep, all the way to a certified mold-free coffee scrub and a wild yam root cream to help holistically rebalance your hormones. Growing this business has been such an authentic and organic journey so far, stemming from creating products I personally desired to help my body heal from Lymes after being diagnosed in 2022. I would love to continue building my collection as our family continues to swap out items and develop better quality products in our own home. I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s next!

eNOW: What do you believe makes your skincare line unique?

LOWRY: Unlike mainstream skincare, which often contains synthetic chemicals and preservatives, my products provide a pure, ancestral alternative. Tallow has been used for centuries and was known for its skin-repairing properties, something that many people in modern skincare tend to overlook. My products are all made exclusively in small batches and are always poured by hand. That provides a level of quality control and trust that mass produced brands can’t match. My products contain zero fillers and only include the highest quality, essential, organic ingredients.

One other way my products are unique is the intentionality behind the development of each product - that they’re crafted not just for skincare but for holistic wellness and are almost all multipurpose in their function. For example, my Magnesium Balm isn’t just for muscle recovery; it can also be used for migraines, menstrual cramping and more restful sleep. My Wild Yam Root Cream isn’t just for women; it can also help men to rebalance their hormonal system as well.

eNOW: Could you share a part of your personal story with us?

LOWRY: It has been just over a year since I officially started this business and it has been such a rewarding experience getting to know my customers so intimately. The testimonies that come in on a weekly basis from people trusting me by choosing my products and seeing their symptoms improve never fails to leave me speechless! Like I previously mentioned, I dealt with neurological Lymes for almost two years. In that time, I dealt with muscle weakness, memory loss, sensory issues, endless nausea and chronic fatigue. I worked with a naturopath practitioner and was on an intense supplement regimen to kill off the infection until my Lymes was no longer active. But I truly believe that because of my Wild Yam Root Cream and Magnesium Balm, I no longer deal with the majority of these symptoms.

I have friends who have used my Wild Yam Root Cream to help with infertility; one of them is currently expecting twins. I recently worked with someone whose teenage daughter was dealing with anxiety and panic attacks, but after using my Magnesium Balm and Wild Yam Root Cream, she has been free of both of those for the last month. A customer in Tennessee has used my Magnesium Balm to successfully treat a symptom of a lifelong condition that causes his feet to constantly be inflamed and ache. Another customer in Florida uses the Whipped Tallow Balm for her daughter’s eczema, while another customer recently sent me a message saying that the Luxe Elixir got rid of a rare form of painful, cracking dermatitis that she’d been dealing with for months.

eNOW: You’re a mom and a business woman… what do you think is the best advice for those who are also balancing those two things?

LOWRY: Like I said, I am a mom to three children and we are a full-time homeschooling family. We also purchased a 70-acre farmhouse almost three years ago and try our best to raise as much as we can on our property. Our days can be long but our hearts are always full! I think the biggest key to that is getting crystal clear on what your priorities are along with your goals and then creating boundaries and a schedule for your business around that. For example, after a lot of trial and error, we have discovered that restocking our website once a week is the best fit for us. Another example would be that I only make products during the afternoon when my kids are doing their reset time and I only package or fulfill orders after they’re in bed. My husband and our relationship is a top priority so we always include a date night in our weekly schedule and I do not take any messages or answer any customer emails during that time. Figure out what your non-negotiables are and stick with them. The Lord has had so much favor on my business and I sincerely think that stems from keeping my family first.

eNOW: Anything you would like to share with the community?

LOWRY: I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for each and every one of you who has supported my business. This journey has been incredible so far, and I know that without this community, it wouldn’t be possible.
