CCE to host workshop on making new and fun lunch box additions


ELLICOTTVILLE - Are you tired of your lunch box options? Looking to save money on groceries this year? Are you reading labels and trying to reduce food additives in your diet? Maybe you are trying to reduce plastic and waste when packaging and preparing meals. You are going to love this yummy class!

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cattaraugus County will host “Lunch Box Swaps” on Thursday, April 10th from 5:30-7:30pm at the CCE Cattaraugus office, 28 Parkside Drive in Ellicottville. This hands-on workshop will be led by Kelly McDonald, Certified Master Food Preserver. During this class you will learn how to make your own granola and other new and fun lunch box additions and explore food dehydration to make fruit leather and dehydrated fruit “chips”.  

Each workshop attendant will receive recipes/instruction and see a presentation about safe food preservation through dehydration techniques. Everyone will taste lots of samples and go home with new ideas to make the lunch box more fun. Note: This class will use various kinds of nuts and oats.

Cost of the hands-on workshop is $10. Discounted price if you are a Master Food Preserver is $7. Please confirm on the registration form so that discounts can be applied.

This is part of a series of classes being scheduled at CCE Cattaraugus. Other classes being planned are: Make Yogurt at home (June 10th), Sourdough basics (November 2025), and Discover Fermentation through Sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables (October 2025).
