ELLICOTTVILLE - If there were ever an excuse to wear your most comfortable pair of elastic drawstring pants, it’s the Taste of Ellicottville. Two days. Twenty restaurants. Close to one hundred different food and drink items. The Taste is literally the one weekend where your opinion counts and calories don’t! August 12-13th, noon-4:00pm each day, downtown EVL… How many restaurants can you hit?

We’ve got the “scoop” on this year’s menu. We’ve got the experience, too! Our team knows these restaurants inside and out and we’re happy to share a few of our “must-try” favorites! Find the restaurant vendor map and full menu at ellicottvilleny.com. Map/menu printouts will also be available at the event, as well as tickets ($1 each, with food items ranging from $1-$6 max.)

FOR STARTERS: Take our advice… start out with something light and healthy; it’ll set the stage for a guilt-free experience.

  • Grain Bowl - Villaggio - Anything with the word “grain” gets the green light from us. Protein power!

  • Chipotle Peanut Noodles - EBC Taqueria - Typically made with creamy peanut butter, apple juice, soy sauce and chipotle chilis, it’s pretty much a salad, right? And, it’s completely vegan!

  • Spicy Chilled Watermelon Soup - West Rose - Okay, we’ve actually never had this before but it completes the “soup and salad” vibe. Plus, watermelon is fruit and fruit is good!

  • Blueberry Lemonade - The Banq - Thirst quenching. Nature’s superfood infused in summer’s refreshing drink of choice.

SIGNATURE DISHES: If you’re a frequent guest of Ellicottville’s dining establishments, you may already know about these popular plates. They’re hard to steer away from; you might even want to go back for seconds!

  • Rueben Meatball - Finnerty’s Taproom - Irish meets Italian. ‘Nuff said,

  • Fresh Cut Potato Chips - Gin Mill - Not your average chips. Once you try these Gin Mill gems, you’ll have a hard time going back to plain old Lays.

  • Mini Shepherd’s Pie - Ellicottville Brewing Co. - The regular menu size serving is massive, so there’s a good chance the mini is still enough to share with a friend. A buttery puff pastry stuffed with sautéed veal, mashed potatoes, onion and a combination of cheeses.

  • All the Pizza! - Monroe St. Brick & Brew - Ellicottville’s brick oven baked pizza connoisseurs are dishing out their most popular pie flavors, including Buffalo Chicken, Garlic White, and original Pepperoni. They’ll have Hawaiian on deck too, although it’s still debatable if pineapple should be allowed on pizza.

THE NEWCOMERS: Taste Weekend opens up the doors for restaurants looking to try something new and get public feedback, or for one restaurant in particular, literally opening up their doors as the newest eatery in town.

  • Brisket Slider Sandwich with Bacon Jam - 12 Gates - These guys have been open for about 8 months now, and have proven that they can play with all the other heavy hitters in town. If you haven’t given them a try, now’s a good time to visit their booth and let them know what you think about their menu.

  • Beef on Weck Egg Rolls - John Harvard’s @ Holiday Valley - A German creation introduced to America in the late 1800’s combines with an Asian staple to offer a delightful mix of flavor.

  • Flautas - Hidalgo Grill Mexican Restaurant - Ellicottville welcomed its newest restaurant just a couple weeks ago! Flautas are rolled up tacos filled with chicken and cheese and topped with guacamole and pico de Gallo. Delicious!

  • Stuffed Poblano - Dina’s - This vegan version is made with impossible beef, black beans, corn, rice, vegan cheese and salsa. It’s gluten free, too!

SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT: Don’t feel bad… this is what Taste weekend is all about! Find your balance, right? It’s okay indulge; just promise yourself a nice long walk on Monday.

  • Ice Cream Tacos - The Tee Bar - We have a thing for tacos here in Ellicottville, no matter what’s inside them.

  • Fruit Pizza - Cupcaked - We have a thing for pizza, too.

  • Rice Pudding - Watson’s Candies - The Taste festival is the ONLY time you’ll have the chance to try Watson’s famous Rice Pudding here in Ellicottville. Once a year. That’s it. That’s all. So make sure you take advantage. Share it with a friend.

  • Bourbon & Peach Tart with Local Honey - Dina’s at The Mont - The perfect ending, in our opinion.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Last but not least, these guys are serving up even more flavors; look for their booths and give them a nibble.

  • Asian Tuna - Silver Fox

  • Southwest Chicken Corn Chowder - Madigan’s

  • Jamaican Jerk Pork Rice Bowl - Balloons

  • Wash it all down with a cup of Natalie’s Lemonade; look for the lemonade stand in front of the Winery of Ellicottville. Or better yet, step into the Winery and sign yourself up for a wine tasting (21+).

As you saunter the streets taking in all the aromas of Ellicottville, look for the People’s Choice QR code posted throughout the event. Scan and cast your vote! Other cool features of this year’s Taste: “Chef’s Corner” on the outdoor main stage, children’s activities on Monroe Street, and live music around every corner. Pro tip: Pace yourself! With so much to choose from, you’ll want to make the experience last. Good luck, and may your stomach handle everything you fill it with!
