Ice Cream Dreams Have Become a Reality at Marten’s Outdoors

Have you ever had that late night craving for a snack or a sweet treat, but nothing is open? We’ve all been there, right? That’s pretty much what happened to Christina Martens and her husband Skyler.

“Our favorite thing after running from sports is to load the family up in the car and hit an ice cream stand and food shack,” said Christina. “Unfortunately in this area, hours of operation are lacking so we said let’s just open our own as a joke and it came to reality, fast!”

It has become a very tasty reality indeed. Twist & Scoops is now open at the same location as Martens Outdoors and EVL Aquatics (4343 S. Whalen Road, Great Valley, NY). Their Grand Opening Celebration is planned for August 11th, and their planned hours of operation will be seven days a week from 11:30am-10:00pm. So if you want an ice cream cone after dark, you’ll be in luck!

Christina is very candid about where her passion for the business comes from. “My first job as a kid was at Tony’s ice cream stand in Salamanca and let me tell you it was a blast! My husband Skyler and I, with the help of family and friends, have been busting our butts since April to get this stand open for the public and it’s finally here!”

The best part? It’s not just about the ice cream… a full menu of snack foods will be available as well! Their starting menu will offer pizza logs, mozzarella sticks, Texas hots, hot dogs, curly fries, popcorn chicken, nachos, tacos in a bag, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders and fish sandwiches. They do plan to expand their menu even further as the business progresses.

As far as the main attraction goes, Twist & Scoops will be serving up Perry’s Ice Cream in bowls, cones, sundaes and milkshakes. Too many flavors to list, but you can expect some top dogs, including Cotton Candy, Rainbow Sherbet, Panda Paws, Peanut Butter Swirl, Birthday Cake and Strawberry Cheesecake as part of their starting line-up. There will even be dairy free Cookies and Cream for the lactose intolerant who still want something to help them keep cool in the late summer heat. You can also get your cones dipped in flavored coatings, like cherry, blue raspberry or birthday cake. Turn any of those hard serve flavors into one amazing milkshake!

Wait, there’s more! Specialty smoothies and sundaes - from the basics like Hot Fudge, Caramel, Peanut Butter and Butterscotch - to the not-so-basic including banana splits, brownie sundaes, cookie sundaes, build your own… It’s really a wonderland of ice cream treats!

Three smoothie options are available currently: Mixed Berry (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry), Strawberry Banana (self-explanatory) and Island Blast (pineapple, mango, coconut) with more to come soon. Christina said they are even planning to offer Bubble Tea (a tea or milk tea with tapioca pearls or exploding fruit pearls in it.)

As you can see, Twist and Scoops is ready to beat the heat by making their ice cream dream a reality for all of us. As Christina explained, “We just thought it would be a creative idea to open up an ice cream stand as we love ice cream ourselves.” You don’t need a better reason than that!
