Presentation by Fileve Tlaloc
Join us at the Ellicottville Memorial Library on Wednesday, February 22nd from 5:30 to 6:30 for a presentation by Fileve Tlaloc.
Coloured Pots: Izikhamba kwamaKaladi series invokes a style of pottery traditionally made and used by amaZulu people in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, part of which makes up Fileve Tlaloc's heritage.
As a member of a multicultural, multiethnic family with a wealth of academic and experiential knowledge Fileve incorporates and blends sacred and profane cultural symbols to explore the human experience and individual as a cultural being. In so doing she works to unpack and explore identity as a series of relationships and roles within environmental and geographic situations. The photographs transposed on these ceramic vessels are from the artist's family archives and unpack the term "Coloured" as it was and is used across South African history and geography to designate multigenerational, multicultural people.
