ECS Update: Guidelines Announced

(Here are some of the key components of Ellicottville Central School’s reopening plan for the 2021-22 school year. For the full document, please visit www.ellicottvillecentral.com. Please be advised that plans may change subject to the dynamic situation.)

The school currently plans for all students to attend classes every day in person.

Masks must be worn by all students and faculty at all times, except when eating/drinking or mask breaks. Wearing masks outdoors is not required. Students will be required to provide their own masks — if this presents a hardship for a family, said family is encouraged to contact the school. If a student forgets a mask, a disposable mask will be provided at no cost.

The school will strive to keep a 3-foot social distance between students, and a 6-foot distance between students and staff. Per CDC guidelines, the use of polycarbonate (clear plastic) barriers is no longer recommended and the District will not use them unless shorter distances between students/faculty are required.

Frequently touched surfaces and objects will be cleaned daily.

Parents will need to check their children for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to sending children to school each day. Currently, daily health screenings (i.e. temperature checks) will not be required. If a student or faculty member feels ill, they must not come to school. In the event of a possible COVID-19 case, the student will be confidentially isolated until a parent can pick them up.

At this time, the school will not require an individual to share their vaccination status, nor will they seek to test anyone at the school for COVID-19. The District will partner with the Cattaraugus County Health Department and Cattaraugus County Department of Emergency Services to provide COVID-19 rapid testing free of charge for staff and faculty who exhibit symptoms.

If an individual is diagnosed with COVID-19 or exhibits symptoms of COVID-19, they must not be at school and should stay home until: it has been at least 10 days since the individual first had symptoms; it has been at least three days since the individual has had a fever; it has been at least three days since the individual’s symptoms have improved; the parent (for students) or employee has discussed their return with the school nurse 24 hours prior to actually returning.

ECS will work with families with medically vulnerable students or household members. Remote instruction will be considered upon receipt and documentation of a physician’s note stating the student requires remote learning. Simple requests for remote learning will not be honored. Remote learning will most likely be provided by an outside agency with regular correspondence to a teacher at school. Remote instruction will not include synchronous learning with ECS faculty.

At this time, ECS is not planning on running before or after-school child care programs.

ECS will return to one bus run in the morning and one in the afternoon. Masks must be worn at all times by students, faculty and staff. If a student does not have a mask, a disposable mask will be provided. Students will not be denied transportation. Due to extensive planning for bus runs, students must be picked up/dropped off from the same address every day.
