ALLEGANY - National Home Care & Hospice Month, which was created by Jimmy Carter in 1978, is a month-long celebration that recognizes healthcare professionals who provide care wherever the patient calls home. HomeCare & Hospice, which proudly serves Cattaraugus, Allegany, Genesee and Wyoming counties, will be taking the time to celebrate their administrators, clinical staff, volunteers, personal care aides and home health aides.

“We have amazing staff who truly provide the best care to our communities,” said Melissa Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer. “We are looking forward to showing our staff even more appreciation throughout the month.”

DINE OUT FOR HOSPICE

HomeCare & Hospice kicked off the month-long celebration with their newest fundraiser, “Dine Out For Hospice” this past Tuesday, November 5th at the Olean Chipotle, located at 2727 West State Street. When customers showed the event flyer or used a mobile code during online pickup between the hours 4:00pm and 8:00pm, HomeCare & Hospice received 25% of the event sales.

Dine Out for Hospice will continue throughout the month of November at Hometown Bar & Grill in Allegany and Charlie’s in Cuba. This new fundraiser gives patrons the option to donate 25%-100% of their bill to support HomeCare & Hospice services.

“We’re excited to team up with these wonderful restaurants to bring our community together for a week of giving,” stated Melissa Sullivan, HomeCare & Hospice CEO. “Dine out, enjoy great food, and have an opportunity to support families in need - one meal at a time.”

With each participating restaurant choosing a week in November, the Dining Out for Hospice fundraiser allows diners to make donations at checkout, directly supporting hospice care services across Allegany, Cattaraugus, Genesee, and Wyoming counties. Funds raised will support the mission of HomeCare & Hospice to offer compassionate, home-based end-of-life care, ensuring patients spend their final days in comfort and dignity.

Hometown Bar & Grill Manager Patti Smith remarked, “We are honored to support this great cause. The services Hospice provides are invaluable to families during difficult times.”

SPECIAL RECOGNITION

During Hospice Month in November, local libraries in Arcade, Olean, Wellsville, and Batavia will feature special Hospice displays. These displays will include books from the libraries' own collections, along with informational materials provided by HomeCare & Hospice. Stop by and learn more about hospice care and the valuable resources available to support patients and families.

Special recognition is celebrated nationally each November and include National Family Caregiver Day on November 1st, Palliative and Advance Care Week November 4th-8th, Hospice Week November 11th-15th, and Home Health Week November 18th-22nd.

National Home Care & Hospice Month is a great time to become a volunteer with the organization. HomeCare & Hospice is seeking caring individuals in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Genesee or Wyoming counties who would be interested in becoming hospice volunteers. Both patients and their families not only require the help of the medical, aide, spiritual, and social work teams provided by HomeCare & Hospice, but also need the support and respite that can be carried out by compassionate members of the community.
