New Doggy Daycare Opens in Great Valley

A Little “Companionshep” Goes a Long Way

I know we all wish we could take our puppies everywhere. (Doesn’t matter how old, all dogs are puppies!) Unfortunately, most work places are not pet accessible, so we have to leave them behind during the day. Then you think, are they lonely? Will they be okay the whole time I’m gone? What if they get into something they shouldn’t? (It’s like leaving behind a kid without thumbs and a lot of teeth.) Well, don’t fret, because a new doggy sitting option is coming to Great Valley at the end of the month.

ellicottvilleNOW had the opportunity to talk with owner and Ellicottville resident Rebecca Wheeler about “Companionshep” Doggy Daycare and what she plans to offer the furry members of our community.

Of course we had to ask her how she got started with this new endeavor. She revealed that she first worked in a doggy daycare 15 years ago outside of Cleveland, Ohio. This venture has been on her mind since last summer. It was decided (like most good ideas are) while doing basic chores. She said, “My fiancé and I were making dinner, talking about the business and within that conversation I came up with the name, Companionshep. One part is what we all want for and from our dogs and the other part is an ode to our beautiful German Shepherd, Shep. We both looked at each other and knew.”

The couple is planning to open at the end of the month and they have big ideas as they move forward. Rebecca said, “We are going to offer multiple daycare packages and will be offering boarding services to daycare clients exclusively at this time. That being said, we are working on more options for the future!”

Companionshep will be a true oasis for your four-legged companions. “Unlike many facilities, we are not concrete, cages and potty breaks” explained Rebecca. “We are your pet’s home away from home, with fun and friends and companionship, of course! It is evident when you walk through our door that I have set out to create a different kind of place.”

She went on to say, “Through the latter half of my career in veterinary technology, I am keenly aware how some of the simplest things can make huge differences in the lives of our animals. We understand that not every dog is suited for a daycare setting and that is totally okay! In our shop, we are carrying high quality products - at Amazon and Chewy prices! - to improve the lives of every single dog we can reach. Picky eaters? Mobility struggles? Itchy skin? Yucky teeth? Something else? We can help!”

Those are noble goals to begin with, so what are their intentions for the business moving forward from their opening? “We intend to be the one-stop shop for all things dog,” said Rebecca. “Daycare, boarding, puppy classes, specialty items, health supplements and more. As I previously mentioned, I am here to help. I want to help, I need to help. Even if you just need someone to talk through an issue you may be having with your dog, I am ready to help.”

Rebecca added that when she saw the need in the area and with friends and family frustrated with the lack of options, it seemed like the opportune time to use her knowledge and experience to fill that need. “We look forward to welcoming everyone to Companionshep!”
