Interview with: Dee Dippel, Owner

What’s new in the shop this year?
Everything is new for Loud Underground this year! The biggest thing is the new location (2 Bristol Lane) and partnering up with Daily City Train Skate Shop & Indoor Park. We now have more space to offer a larger selection of product, and more accessible parking to get bikes and boards in and out of the shop easier. The new space has allowed us to expand our offerings - more snowboard gear and apparel will be added from brands not found in town, BMX bikes, and more. We are excited to offer fat-bike and BMX bike rentals this year as well.

Do you have a personal favorite brand or piece of equipment?
In a world full of great product, it’s really hard to go wrong with any of the offerings in each specific field. For me, the key to enjoying any outdoor winter activity is the proper gear. We offer great layerwear from BlackStrap to keep you warm, and wick moisture, paired with tech-packed outerwear from 686 to keep you dry and protected from the elements.

Are there any events Loud Underground is involved in this season that you’re looking forward to?
Yes! We will be involved in several events this season that we’re super excited to share. We are still planning and finalizing the winter schedule, and we look forward to releasing it soon. But in the meantime we do have a couple upcoming events still for this month. Newt’s Nightmare Halloween Enduro Bike Race on 10/28 at the HoliMont Bike Park, and The Halloween Bash on 10/29 with Daily City Train.

What’s it like running year-round and shifting from bikes to boards?
Both industries have taught us to adapt to change, and we welcome it. The change of seasons often brings that “kid at Christmas” feeling we all used to love. New product unboxing, fresh gear, and a change in service all brings a refreshing feeling to the shop. The bike season never really stops for us either; we just change gears from mountain bikes to fat bikes and now with the new location, BMX bikes and dirt jumpers.

What’s the inventory looking like this season?
This season we are excited to offer a bigger selection of gear from some of our favorites: Capita Snowboards, Union Bindings, ThirtyTwo Boots, Clew Bindings, 686, Coal Headwear, Blackstrap, Crab Grab, and a few more new offerings that you’ll have to stop by and see what we have in store! We are stocked up and ready to rip for this snowboard season. We have all kinds of product, and also some great deals on some leftover inventory as well. From layering to outer wear, and also winter fatbiking apparel as well.

Can we hear about the ski and board services Loud Underground offers?
We offer a variety of basic ski and board services - from edge sharpens, base repairs, epoxy work, to just a nice, hot hand wax, all at the most competitive rates. Our goal is to offer same day turn-around service to get you back out on the hill and enjoying what Ellicottville has to offer.

What year is Loud Underground in Ellicottville celebrating?
We are entering our 3rd season in Ellicottville, and our first year in our new location since our grand opening on August 19th.

What do you look forward to the most once snow covers the slopes?
We hope for snow, snow, SNOW! We appreciate all that the resorts have done to make the most of our winters, and we hope for this season to bless us with tons of natural snow. The crew is most excited for laps with friends at HoliMont and Holiday Valley, and a season full of groomed fatbike miles on WNY’s wonderful groomed trail networks. Also on a side note, Western New York has some of the best winter time fatbiking trails and mileage in the eastern United States. In the Ellicottville area, there are groomed trails at HoliMont, Golden Hill State Forest, and McCarty Hill State forest. Look forward to trail conditions, rides, and rentals this season!
