Photographs by Robert Adler on exhibit at Art’s Cafe, Springville

“Don’t expect to go to heaven. Heaven is here on Earth,” Robert Adler’s grandmother would tell him as a child. This quote came to mind when planning his upcoming photography exhibition at Art’s Café.

Born in 1950 in Ontario, Canada, Adler spent his childhood summers learning about the natural world. Inspired by the forms and colors of plant-life, he began taking pictures and experimenting with juxtapositions and lighting. He considers his work largely impressionist and meant to convey feeling.

He writes, “Some of my favorite images are that of water; images of the sea and the clouds and the pooling and reflecting and streaming of water. But this exhibit is about another kind of water - flora. Flora is water manifested in three dimensions. A small seed contains an incredible amount of information which will be used to create amazing plants. But without water it just sits there. Add water and the lifecycle of creation begins. Shapes, sizes, colors emerge.

Flora: The Beauty All Around Us is presented by Springville Center for the Arts and will be on display at Art’s Café from March 30th through May 14th. The Café’s hours are Wednesday through Saturday 9:00am-4:00pm.

The public is welcome to enjoy complimentary refreshments and conversation with Adler at an artist’s reception on Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00pm at Art’s Café, located at 5 East Main Street in Springville, NY.
