Comedian and master of magic, Michael Kent, returns to Salamanca this month to provide an afternoon to remember!
Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 30th from 2:00-3:00pm to catch Michael Kent in action! Hosted by the Ray Evans Seneca Theater, this is not your typical magic show. Michael Kent is known for giving a facelift to the old ways of magic and adding a comedic spin to his sets. The Columbus, Ohio native has been looking for laughs through magic since his younger days, making friends and chasing girls with his quick tricks. Now the professional magician finds himself performing for the masses from 49 states to 18 countries overseas.
Kent always welcomes his guests to join in on the fun from their seats to the stage with interactive routines and audience participation. With the mind-blowing effects of a magician and the crazy antics of a comedian, this show is one that should not be missed! EllicottvilleNOW spoke with Michael about his plans for this year’s show and how he feels about performing in Salamanca.
eNOW: You’re coming back to the Ray Evans… what do you enjoy most about the venue?
KENT: I really enjoyed the small community feel. An audience is always more fun when people know and like each other. I remember getting that vibe from Salamanca last year.
eNOW: Any new surprises for this year’s performance?
KENT: I always do my best to add one or two things each year, honing the old routines and occasionally mixing in new things. People who saw last year’s show will get to see some of their favorite routines from then, and maybe a couple new surprises!
eNOW: You do a lot of pre-show crowd work, really meeting your audience. What is that like?
KENT: It’s fantastic. I love meeting people, and doing so before a show allows me to really get a feel for the audience. I suppose it warms them up to me as well!
eNOW: After so many years of performing, what is the one thing you always take away from a show?
KENT: It’s amazing to me that after 22 years of touring, the one thing that has never changed is the feeling onstage. It still feels like it did when I started. But as far as a universal takeaway, it’s that people are basically good and basically the same everywhere you go - even other countries. We all want the same things. And with work stress, family stress, political news stress, etc., everyone wants (and deserves) to have an outlet to enjoy good entertainment where none of that stuff enters the picture. The show may be a goofy comedy and magic show, but for me, it’s about giving people an hour where they can “escape”.
Kent ended with, “I’m going to do my best to give you the best show I can, so I’m looking forward to seeing old and new faces on the 30th.”
