SALAMANCA - This year’s “First Day History and Nature Hike” is an easy trek featuring historical and environmental tidbits of information about the features found in this area of the park.

The hike starts at the Red House Picnic Shelter, where the Friends of Allegany State Park will be providing hot chocolate and coffee at 10:00am during registration and a hot dog lunch from 11:30am-1:00pm. Group pictures will be taken at the beginning of the lunch and at the end. The First Day Hike will run from 10:00am-2:00pm.

“The vastness of Allegany State Park compels some to seek tranquility and others to build generational connection,” said park worker Jonathan Lee Anderson.

Participants can pick up some “First Day Hike” gear while supplies last and hiking guide at the picnic shelter. Dress for the weather and be sure to wear appropriate footwear and/or snowshoes.
