SPRINGVILLE - Springville Center for the Arts presents contemporary celtic band Cantrip for a residency dating December 9th through the 19th. They will be holding a series of workshops, having a free kid’s show, and performing a concert in the newly renovated but not yet completed Carol Mongerson Theater on Saturday, December 14th at 7:00pm.
Cantrip is a quartet of Scottish traditional musicians known for having “one of the strongest personalities on the Celtic Circuit” (The Orcadian). Their audiences span both sides of the Atlantic, sharing their driving blend of fiddles, bagpipes, guitar, and rich vocals. The name is an Old Scots word meaning charm, magic spell or piece of mischief and it aptly describes the unexpected twists and turns in their musical arrangements. “Their presentation is all energy,” creating vibrant “wild landscapes” through their sound (The Orcadian).
During their residency, Cantrip will be holding private performances and workshop sessions with neighboring schools in the Springville district. There will be an open community jam session on Friday, December 13th at 6:30pm with Art’s Cafe. Any skill level is welcome to bring their voices or instruments and participate in an open jam with the band. On Saturday, December 14th there will be a 45-minute free kid’s show at Art’s Cafe in the morning, followed by a ticketed concert at the Carol Mongerson Theater in the evening.
Springville Center for the Arts launched a Theater Seat Campaign, inviting the public to dedicate a chair in the theater to an individual or loved one. Their name will be engraved on the seat, and support the organization by providing permanent seating for the Carol Mongerson Theater. For more information, visit their website at SpringvilleArts.org.
Cantrip will be performing on Saturday, December 14th at 7:00pm in the Carol Mongerson Theater at 37 North Buffalo Street, Springville.
