There’s nothing like a neighborhood restaurant staple, and the town of Randolph now has a new family friendly, full-service restaurant to enjoy with the opening of Jaggerz at 16 Jamestown Street.

At just 23 years old, owner Brenden Chudy is taking his business management degree from Jamestown Business College and his managerial experience from Tim Hortons to the next level with his newest venture. In the former restaurant space of Vern’s Place, the young entrepreneur hopes to continue the legacy of the popular breakfast spot with Jaggerz, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week.

Chudy keeps a full schedule, as the store manager of the Ellicottville Tim Hortons, a position he’s held since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, although his employment with the company began at age 16. The Great Valley native is also the new owner of Tony’s Tastee Freeze in Salamanca, which he took over operations for last May and had a successful summer season, he said by way of phone interview with ellicottvilleNOW.

“It was our first year in there, so we learned a lot - we really enhanced the business quite a bit,” he said. A smoker was added for barbecue, offering staples like pulled pork, ribs, and chicken; business hours were extended, and new ice cream flavors were added, making the total flavors available near 50 and breaking records for the quantity of ice cream sold, he said.

“We’re really limited on the space at Tony’s - it was a smaller building,” Chudy said. “We kind of reached our capacity; our guests really liked our food, and they wanted more, and they wanted us to do more on the menu - they wanted us to expand what we could do.”

That’s when he started looking for a larger space that could accommodate a brick oven for pizza. When he found that Vern’s Place was available, the young entrepreneur jumped at the opportunity. “The way we looked at it was, ok, this will be perfect - we have the space to be able to execute what we want,” Chudy stated. “We added our brick oven pizzas. We decided to do breakfast, and now the business is a full-service restaurant… breakfast, lunch, dinner.

With Tony’s now closed for the winter season, Chudy has time to turn his attention to his newest endeavor, Jaggerz. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week is no small feat, but Chudy is supported by a strong team. “I have a really experienced and seasoned team that has ran businesses – I have someone that’s dedicated to the barbecues, I have someone that’s dedicated to the pizzas, I have someone’s that dedicated to the breakfasts, I have someone who has management experience that has ran businesses similar to this in the past, so I have a lot of experience coming into my corner,” he said.

Breakfast items consist of favorites ranging anywhere from breakfast sandwiches to omelets to grits, home fries, and hash browns, Chudy said. The lunch menu features subs, salads, soups, burgers, and chili. Dinner includes brick oven pizza, garlic knots, Stromboli, calzones, and the occasional spaghetti dinners, in addition to Jaggerz’s daily specials, and 0.70-cent-wing Mondays and pop-up barbecue nights.

When questioned about the name, Chudy recalls that it comes from his childhood pet Sheltie, Jagger, named after the legendary frontman for the Rolling Stones. When he mentioned that to a colleague, the name stuck. With a “z” added to the end for pizza, he noted, “We came up with the logo and we kind of rolled with it because the dog now left my family, and it was just kind of sentimental.”

As for business, Chudy says it has exceeded his expectations. “We opened on October 1st [and] the first month has been great,” he said. “I did not know what to expect going into it. I didn’t know the Randolph clientele like I do the Salamanca clientele, and location-wise, we’re in a really good spot… we’re in the heart of Randolph.”

Now, Chudy says the only thing left to do is to get the word out that Jaggerz is not just a breakfast spot. “The first couple of nights were kind of slow because people didn’t know that we were there, and then it was like, night three, four, and ever since then… it’s been insane from then on,” he said.

Chudy said that the word is getting out and the reviews coming in are positive. The restaurant’s Facebook page has amassed over 1,000 followers in its first month alone. “We’re getting some really good feedback. Guests love our portions. They think our pricing is very good. We run specials daily. We have pizza specials just about every day,” he said, noting that the restaurant is open Mondays while many of the other area businesses are closed. With 0.70 cent wings starting at 11:00am till close, Monday is one of the busier days of the week, he said.

Jaggerz is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, from 6:00am-9:00pm Sunday through Thursday, and 6:00am-10:00pm Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant will serve Thanksgiving Day breakfast from 7:00-11:00am and will be closed on Christmas Day. Local delivery of the full menu is available and deliveries outside of Randolph can be accommodated for larger orders. To place an order or for additional information, call 716-356-5006 or visit the Jaggerz Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/people/Jaggerz/61565572778567/.

Tony’s Tastee Freeze in Salamanca will reopen April 1st with the end goal of opening year-round, Chudy says.
