ELLICOTTVILLE - At a recent dinner at the Olean Century Manor, the Rotary Club of Ellicottville and the Rotary Club of Olean held their installation of officers for the 2023-2024 year. Rotary Assistant Governor, John Weismantel, swore in Olean Club President Paula Bernstein, who in turn swore in Weismantel as the Ellicottville President. Bernstein then swore in her new officers. She will also take over as Assistant Governor for the upcoming term. Bernstein presented Weismantel with the Paul Harris Fellowship award for his contributions to Rotary.

District Governor, Lisa Bishop, made her official visit at a dinner meeting held at John Harvard’s Brew House. President Weismantel presented her with a check to go to the Rotary Foundation to help with District and International causes.

During the grand opening of the New Car Dealers of WNY Skatepark last month, the Rotary Club of Ellicottville was recognized as one of the top three contributors. Several Rotarians were in attendance.

At a recently held District Conference in Cambria, NY, Rotarians who passed away in the past year were memorialized. Deborah Burkhart was remembered and honored for her service to Rotary.

The Ellicottville Club is delighted to announce the addition of nine new members, with several more residents expressing an interest in joining. Anyone thinking of joining can call John Weismantel at 716-228-7288 or go online at ellicottvillerotary.com. The Ellicottville Club currently meets every other Thursday at 6:00pm; the location varies - from the American Legion to local establishments throughout the village.

The Club would like to recognize Rotarians who have retired in the last year: Kathy Trost, longtime Secretary/Treasurer, Jack Luzier, Past President, Doug Anderson, Past President, Carolyn Anderson, Past Secretary, Dave Blanchard, a charter member and Past Sergeant at Arms, and Jill Dunn, Past Public Image chair and longtime contributor. Thank you for your commitment and service.

Rotary is also pleased to have recently formed partnerships with the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion Post and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Upcoming events being organized by the Rotary include a Fine Art and Craft Show to be held downtown over Labor Day weekend. This will be in collaboration with the Cattaraugus County Council for the Arts. In late September, a black-tie dinner and auction will be held at Holiday Valley in partnership with the Olean General Hospital Foundation. In 2024 the Rotary Club hopes to revive a new version of the very popular Tuscan Moon. Stay tuned for more details.
