Bob McCarthy’s Irish Christmas 2022

Bob McCarthy’s Irish Christmas 2022

The EVL Elf gives us the deets on Friday’s event

We have the rundown for what is in store for you at this year’s Bob McCarthy’s Irish Christmas, happening at EBC on Friday, December 9 beginning at 6:00pm. With the generous support of the Ellicottville Brewing Company the 16th annual tradition will see all proceeds from special beer and wine sales go to the Bob McCarthy Foundation’s programs.  Brew master Dan Minner has created a special Stout and the traditional McCarthy Irish Red to commemorate the legend at his event. Come hungry as the “Taste of Ireland” features special dishes served up by local restaurants: Katy’s Cafe (Guinness Irish Stew), Madigan’s (Guinness Mac & Cheese), The Silver Fox (Bangers & Mash), Villaggio (Rueben Pasta), and Dina’s (Tom’s Irish Cream Bread Pudding), along with EBC’s special Irish Coffee. Believe it or not each of the food and bar items listed above can be had for a small donation of $5 each, with all proceeds helping the Bob McCarthy Foundation.

If that was not enough, the event held in EBC’s great new Beer Hall kicks off at 6:00pm featuring an energetic live show from South Buffalo, Peter Zalocha and Charlie Coughlin of Crikwater. Their music conjures scenes of gritty smokey Irish pubs, whiskey, pints of stout, and good craic. You will enjoy the multi-part vocal harmonies, engaging fiddle tunes, and intricate musicianship while chatting with friends and browsing the new Irish Basket Raffle and Live Auction items.

The Live Auction, which will start at 7:30pm, is being hosted by Brooks LeFeber. A local legend, Brooks will surely entertain the crowd with a limited number of auction treasures which include some of Bob McCarthy’s woodworking originals and special creations from Ed Frederickson, Mike Timkey and others. All auction items are accompanied by a homemade pie or baked good, keeping with the long tradition. An exciting addition this year is an Irish Basket Raffle which will be held in the mezzanine area of the hall.  Erin Cornelius and Brooke Szpaicher created this area so all people attending can participate with many lucky winners taking home great gifts for a minimal donation (20 Tickets for $10).  Many local businesses have provided great seasonal gifts - get a sneak peek at many of the Live Auction items and Irish Basket Raffle items on the Foundation’s website at www.bobmccarthyfoundation.com/events.

This fun event is always the most talked about event of the holiday season, reflecting the generosity and compassion of our tight knit community as so many turn out to support the cause. Hosted by the Bob McCarthy Foundation, this event serves to raise funds for our main initiatives, which are Santa’s Workshop and the Sheriffs’ Santa Program.  Proceeds also provide funding for our year-round family support services as we strive to level the playing field for those less fortunate in our community.

The Foundation hopes that Ellicottville’s generous community will open its heart and attend or donate at www.bobmccarthyfoundation.com/donate or via the mail at McCarthy Foundation, PO Box 101, Ellicottville, NY 14731.  A little goes a long way!

The evening will be a ton of fun for all! Bob always found a way to make the holidays magical… and this year it will be exceptional! We’ll see you this Friday, December 9 at EBC. It will be one you won’t want to miss.
