If you’ve come into Little Valley from either Ellicottville or Salamanca, you’ve had to have seen the Little Valley Riders Club (LVRC), located at 5397 Route 353, on the left before you reach Dollar General. You might have always wondered what the area is used for? On September 14th from 9:30am to 4:00pm, you can find out when you visit the LVRC’s Craft Vendor Farm & Flea Market.
That sounds interesting, so what exactly is it? Event organizer James Post stated, “This event is a craft vendor farm and flea market. We will have custom leather patch hats, 3D printed trinkets, painted signs, junk and antique vendors, crochet, jewelry, freeze dried candy, and more. We are still currently looking to add vendors, specifically of the farmers stand variety as we do not currently have any, but hopefully by the time September rolls around we will have a few fresh produce vendors also.”
So it’s like a huge shopping festival. How does that even happen? “The event was started as a way to bring in new and past people back into our club, while also fundraising to update our playground and grounds. And bring more fun events into Little Valley! This is only our second event of this variety. Our goal and hope will be to shift this to a monthly event next year if this event goes well,” James explained.
In the vein of community fun, the event is FREE and ALL of the public is welcome. This event is very family-friendly and there will be lots of activities for all ages, ncluding face painting, basket raffle, 50/50 (drawn live at 3:30pm), a petting zoo, and pony rides. The Little Valley Fire Department will also be attending with a fire truck for kids to visit.
And if all the browsing and activities build up your appetite, no worries. There will be food and beverages available to purchase. A local favorite, The Pig Out Place, a Cattaraugus County bbq vendor will be selling food and drinks at this event, with hot dogs, burgers, cowboy baked beans, special offerings, and their ever-popular Haystack Plate. It’s a dish that gives you everything they’ve got in one serving, featuring tortilla chips, man n’ cheese, pulled pork, cowboy beans, cheese sauce, bbq sauce, coleslaw - it’s the works. The Little Valley Riders Club themselves will also be selling some refreshments.
What exactly is this event really supporting you ask? James had this to say, “This event is supporting the growth and improvement of both our grounds and playground for the betterment of public use for future generations to come. We are a family-oriented horse club, and welcome new families or members with open arms. No horses necessary. Just an appreciation for camping, animals, family, and creating new memories with amazing people!”
James adds, “The community should come out and visit this event and help support our club, so in the future we can host more community events. This also can help us be set up to support other events and fundraisers within our community.
You can follow The Little Valley Riders Club Facebook page for more events coming up! This year so far they are having movie nights and are planning a trunk or treat with more things in the works.
