Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail Welcomes Five New Pieces to Springville Public Art Installation

SPRINGVILLE - The newest Springville public art installation was celebrated July 18 as Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail and Springville Center for the Arts welcomed five new sculptures to the area of rail trail just north of Franklin Street in the Village of Springville. At a family arts celebration featuring an interactive theater presentation, food truck, and kid-friendly activities at Sculpture Alley, sculptors were honored for their works and the new sculptures were welcomed to their new home.

Deb Fenn, past President of Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail, hailed the new works and urged the public to “revisit this part of the trail often, and continue to delight in its artistic offerings for many years to come.” Seth Wochensky, Executive Director of Springville Center for the Arts, welcomed all to “this unique part of the trail where people can see that Springville is a community that cares about art.”

Local sculptors Sarah Fonzi, Matthew Retzlaff, and Rich Federowicz were on-hand to describe their artistic visions as they created the new additions to the outdoor sculpture gallery. Last summer, Brian Pfeiffer installed two interactive concrete sculptures to inaugurate the site. This year’s works include Fonzi’s imaginative tubular metal design, Federowicz’s constructions of metal and acrylic – evoking hardware and water, respectively, and Retzlaff’s dreamy moon and stars creations.

Sculpture Alley is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Services, Inc.
