A Little Community Love

Great Valley Community Picnic at Baugh Park set for August 2nd

We could all do with a little bit of community love. The world is a convoluted mess right now and it is important that we take a step back and remember that our neighbors aren’t meant to be ignored; they are meant to be our friends. With that in mind, the Town of Great Valley wishes to invite everyone in our area up to Baugh Park in Great Valley, NY (the former youth camp) located at 6619 Mutton Hollow Road for the 2nd Annual Great Valley Community Day, Friday, August 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm.

Last year’s Open House brought in a great crowd, and this year’s event is expected to be even bigger and better. Many improvements have been completed to the area since its opening. Great Valley Supervisor Dan Brown stated, “We’ve been hard at work up at the old youth camp. The remaining building now has a deck, a new roof and new siding, thanks to the hard work of Horton Builders. And by the end of this year it should be ready to host events like reunions, weddings, birthdays etc.”

Come see all of the great changes that have been made, including the fact that there is now electric on both sides of the camp and the water pump is installed, which means the water on-site now works. Sadly, bathrooms aren’t yet complete but there will be a Port-A-John on-site for public use during August 2nd’s Community Day picnic. Both indoor and outdoor bathroom facilities are planned for the future.

Back to the picnic itself. Attendees will be treated to complimentary pulled pork sandwiches, chips and bottled water. The public is welcome to bring their own food and drinks as well. Make sure to bring your own comfy lawn chair, too, and dress for the weather. Sunscreen, bug spray, possibly an umbrella… (You never know around here!) There will be live entertainment from duo Jon and Sandy, who play classic country and rock, as well as a performance from the ever-popular Travis Happoldt, who will be jamming out on the stage with his “Grungy Country” style.

Great Valley Community Day is a family-friendly. Feel free to bring some toys or yard games for the littles. Dan Brown said, “We’ll be talking with everyone at the picnic for more ideas to improve next year. We’re thinking of adding bounce houses and other activities for the kids, maybe starting earlier in the day and having a vendors market before the live entertainment. This is still very much a work in progress that we want our community members’ input on.”

Dan is hoping to hear positive public feedback on what they can add to the site to make it a great family spot to visit - all year round, not just in the summer. So plan to attend August 2nd and be a part of the Baugh Park’s future. If you have any questions or need more information, reach out to the Great Valley Town Hall at 716-945-4200 x 101.
