Pfeiffer Nature Center is hosting a variety of events for people of any age and skill level.
Outdoor Yoga at Pfeiffer Nature Center: Every Thursday from 6-7pm until the end of September. (Except July 4th) At our Lillibridge location (1974 Lillibridge Rd, Portville, NY 14770)
Forest Bathing every third Monday of the month until the end of September. At our Lillibridge location (1974 Lillibridge Rd, Portville, NY 14770) Forest bathing, known in Japanese culture as "taking in the forest atmosphere" or shinrin-yoku, is a moving mediation surrounded by nature. Join us for our first sunset session on Monday May 20th from 7-8pm up at the Lillibridge location of Pfeiffer Nature Center [1974 Lillibridge Rd. Portville, NY]. Jessie Lampack Slattery, local yoga instructor, outdoor enthusiast, and owner of Enchanted Mountain Wellspring will be leading this practice of mindful movement and meditative inquiry amidst the old growth forest. We will meet in the parking lot and wander through the woods, taking in the wonders of this beautiful planet through all our senses as the sun goes down. Setting intentions, observing, reflecting, and deep gratitude to the Earth herself is all a part of a forest bath.
"Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet." - Thich Nhat Hanh. Forest bathing is often a healing and connective experience so consider bringing a friend or partner with whom to share this. This is a slow walk suitable for most bodies, poetic prompts are offered along the way; quiet children are welcome and those under age 16 are free. $10 per person, no pre-registration required. Studies show that forest bathing can reduce blood pressure, lower cortisol levels (decrease stress hormones), improve concentration and memory, and even boost the immune system - see for yourself the benefits by giving this a try. Plant Walk and Primitive Skills Share Tuesday June 25th 6:30-7:30. At our Eshelman Property (1420 Yubadam Road Portville, NY 14770) Join Bliss from Pfeiffer Nature Center for a summer plant walk & primitive skills share! We will explore various plants and some of their historical uses. Each of you will have the opportunity to learn an ancient, fun & important earth based-skill.
Join us for Trail Clean-up Day on Sunday, June 30th! Join us for a day of cleaning up the trails and maintaining our beautiful properties. Volunteers appreciated! We will rack, clear sticks and debris from paths. Make sure you bring water, gloves, bug spray! We will have pizza available for volunteers. Basket Weaving with Tri-County Arts on Sunday, June 23rd at our Lillibridge location (1974 Lillibridge Road Portville, NY 14770) Join Us for a fun-filled day of Basketweaving outdoors at the Pfeiffer Nature Center for the Gathering Basket! You will learn basic weaving techniques using a variety of reeds and colors with a rectangular wooden base with attached spokes. You will attach a handle to your basket as well. This Basket is perfect for gathering from your garden, but also has dozens of uses in your home! Suitable for Beginners & Experienced Weavers. Instructor: Nicole Fair. Date: June 23, 2024 (Sunday). Time: 11:00-2:00pm. Cost: $35 Artisan Members & Above $45 Basic/Family Members & Non-Members. Supplies FEE: $35. Age: 12+
