TRAIL CENTRAL

Known as Trail Central, McKean County has an expansive trail system for hiking and biking. For the adrenaline seeking mountain bikers, the Trails at Jakes Rocks, Pennsylvania’s 2024 Trail of the Year, provides 35 miles of an exhilarating ride through rugged landscapes with well-maintained paths that showcase the forest's diverse flora and fauna. It features a variety of challenges, from the gentler Tuttletown and Coal Knob trails to the epic one-way Blacksnake gravity trail. The trails connect to Dewdrop Campground for convenient overnight stays. Nearby accommodations include Kane Manor Inn, the Flats on Fraley, and the Lofts on Fraley, perfect for those who prefer staying in inns or Airbnbs. The Jakes Rocks Trailhead is ideal for first-time users of the trail system.

For the hiking bipeds, Bradford, the largest town in McKean County, offers over 40 miles of trails, making it a great base camp for hiking or backpacking. The Marilla Bridges Trail System includes trails ranging from the scenic 1-mile loop around Marilla Reservoir to the challenging Marilla Springs, Marilla Rocks, or Bullis Hollow trails. The Timberdoodle Flats Interpretive Trail features two loops totaling 1.5 miles, perfect for casual hikers, families, and bird watchers. The Bluebird Trail, suitable for wheelchairs and walking assistance, offers a gentle hike with interpretive stops.

The Rimrock Overlook & Trail provides a short 1.3-mile connection from one of the forest's most stunning overlooks to the Kinzua Beach Recreation Area. This trail, marked by a large sign along Route 59, is an easy to moderate hike with picnic tables and free parking available.

KINZUA SKY WALK

For those unafraid of heights, the Kinzua Sky Walk extends 624 feet into the Kinzua Gorge, standing 225 feet above the ground. Featuring a partial glass floor, it offers breathtaking views of Kinzua Creek, the forest-covered gorge, and the 2003 tornado-scattered ruins of 11 of the original viaduct towers. The Kinzua Sky Walk is the #1 State Park in PA and is recognized as one of the Top Sky Walks in the World!

The skywalk, a reinvention of the historic Kinzua Viaduct, is highlighted in the interpretive displays at the Kinzua Bridge State Park’s Visitors Center. The dog-friendly park also offers three trails: the family-friendly General Kane Trail, the Knox & Kane Rail Trail for hiking and biking, and the challenging Kinzua Creek Trail.
