Before you hang up your skis and snowboards, there are a couple of on-snow opportunities that may require your presence, with a bag of tricks and good friends in tow. The HoliMont Park Crew has one last showdown to throw down before the snow melts, and it involves a mini halfpipe, sweet methods, and shredders of all ages.

Ditch Daze is returning to HoliMont’s Main Park for Year 4. It’s the final showcase of style paired with the camaraderie of the freestyle community. The stage is set for this Sunday, March 30th on Snowbird, and the event is open to the public.

Terrain park builder Chris Perks and his crew have been busy transforming the jump line into a manageable halfpipe for Sunday’s event. “We like to pull all the stops with our terrain park crew to showcase not only what they’re capable of creating, but also what they’re really interested in riding,” he said. “We’ve been pushing piles down towards the bottom part of Snowbird, using the snow from our main jumps to curate a mini pipe for this weekend’s event,” he said. “Thanks to an awesome winter, we have plenty of snow to work with, and we’re looking forward to a great turnout on Sunday with some excellent riders.”

Early registration is available online, as is day-of registration in the HoliCenter from 8:00-10:30am, with the Ditch Daze comp kicking off 11:15am. Snowboarders and skiers will have a 90-minute window to session the pipe, and judges will be keeping an eye out for style, amplitude and effort, awarding competitors with custom-designed plaques for the biggest air, best method, and standout grom. Product from partnering shops will be up for grabs as well.

“The original vision of Ditch Daze was to revive the stoke of riding a halfpipe, something our area hasn’t seen in decades,” said Perks. “That first year was so lively; it was awesome to see everyone out here, throwing down and reminiscing about the days of halfpipe riding. But the past two years haven’t produced the weather patterns to allow for a pipe, and with the lack of snow, we had to rethink the way we built Ditch Daze, shifting into more of a plaza-style course. It takes a lot of snow to create a halfpipe, and we’re pumped to be able to bring it back to that original vision this year.”

Not competing? With the event located next to the HoliMont Chalet, Ditch Daze makes it easy for spectators to take in the action. Grab a pocket cookie and a hot chocolate from Dina’s at The Mont located inside the Chalet, and come cheer on your favorite rider or skier.

Ditch Daze is produced by HoliMont and HoliMont Parks, in partnership with Loud Performance, Daily City Train, and Jamestown Skate Products. Competitor pricing for non-members is $80 which includes event entry and lift ticket. Member pricing is $40. For more information or to register, visit @holimont on FB/IG and click the link in bio.

“Come jam, connect with friends, show off your handplant, and experience the magical flow of the halfpipe.”

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

HoliMont is projecting to stay open through Sunday, April 13th, weather permitting. For the remainder of the season, the resort is offering a discounted weekday rate of $70 when you bring your valid 24/25 season pass from any other resort. Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce member businesses and their employees can also receive the $70 rate through the rest of this season.

Whether it’s a season-ending celebration with your family, a fun, friendly competition like Ditch Daze, or just a laid-back après-ski gathering on the patio, these final days of on-snow are calling. See you out there!
